UMO Alumni Weekend Set for March 31-April 2

MOUNT OLIVE – The University of Mount Olive is preparing for its 2017 Spring Alumni Weekend taking place from March 31 to April 2 at various locations on the Mount Olive campus. There will be a multitude of fun activities for UMO alumni to enjoy while they catch up with old friends and relive their college years.

The weekend will tee off on Friday March 31, with the annual Alumni Golf Tournament scheduled for noon at Southern Wayne Country Club.  At 6 PM there will be an Alumni Awards Dinner in the Alumni Dining Room located in Holmes and Lois K. Murphy Center. This year’s award recipients will be Lee Glover, Opey Jeanes, Brad Lee, and husband and wife Terry and Juliet Jones. Members of the UMO Society and $6.17 Young Alumni Society will also be recognized at this event.

On Saturday April 1, there will be an Alumni Board Meeting at 11 AM in the Hennessee Room.  The meeting is open to all MOC and UMO alumni. A women’s alumni soccer game is scheduled for 1 PM, with a men’s alumni soccer game planned for 3 PM.  From 2 to 4 PM, a presentation on academics will be made in Laughinghouse Hall.  Also at 2 PM, there will be a reunion scheduled for all current and former members of Free Spirit. The reunion will be held in the J. William and Marvis E “Marcy” Byrd Building which houses the Department of Music.  Free Spirit will hold a concert at 7:30 PM in the Hazel Waters Kornegay Assenbly Hall.  A dinner honoring the 25th, 50th, and 60th reunion classes will be held at 5:30 PM in the Hennessee Room.

On Sunday, April 2, there will be a light breakfast at 8 AM in Murphy Center, followed by a worship service at 9 AM in Rodgers Chapel.

“Alumni weekend should be a time of reunions and celebrations of lifelong friendships and memories made at Mount Olive,” said Brooke Bitzenhofer, Assistant Director of Alumni Relations.  “We have a full schedule with something for everyone to enjoy – from athletics to academics and everything in between, it will be a fun-filled weekend. I encourage all of our alumni to RSVP on our event page at to let us know you’re coming. Contact your former classmates and set up times to meet; or make it a family weekend and show the kids or your spouse where you attended college. We look forward to seeing you all on campus!”
