Michael Martin Golf Tournament Set for August 21
MOUNT OLIVE – The 27th Michael Martin Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament is set for Thursday, August 21, 2014 at the Southern Wayne Country Club.
The Michael Martin tournament is held annually in memory of NC Highway Patrolman, Michael Martin, a University of Mount Olive alumnus who was killed in the line of duty. The total raised since the tournament began is more than $540,000. All contributions collected go directly into the Michael Martin Memorial Scholarship Fund at the University of Mount Olive and the University of Mount Olive Trojan Club.
This year the field will be limited to the first 200 players with paid entries. Entries must be received by Thursday, August 14, 2014. The cost is $80 per player or $320 per team. The entry fee includes cart, food and beverages. The shotgun starts at 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Stevens Sausage will serve fresh sausage for breakfast from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. A catered barbecue meal will be held at lunch. There will also be a silent auction. As an added bonus to this year’s event, Sale Auto Mall in Kinston will be giving away a car for a hole in one on one of the par three holes.
All expenses of the tournament, in excess of player entry fees, are underwritten by Friendly Mart. Friendly Mart has been in business for 37 years and has stores located throughout Eastern North Carolina. Over 100 additional sponsors, many of whom are Friendly Mart vendors, also support the event. Area businesses, golfers, friends of the Univeristy, friends of the Martin family and members of law enforcement agencies contribute annually to the event.
