Welcome to the University of Mount Olive. From its very founding, Americans have believed in the power of education: it has been the great equalizer and the provider of opportunities for all. This is most certainly true here.
The University of Mount Olive is a vibrant, dynamic institution that provides a faith-affiliated, values-centered education in the arts, sciences, and professional studies. It is one of the fastest-growing private institutions in North Carolina. The rapid growth both in size and reputation is because of its recognition for being an innovative, creative, and student-centered institution. It has been a leader in providing innovative educational programming and has transformed the way that learning opportunities are provided to students throughout the region.
The University of Mount Olive was established as a two year college by the Convention of Original Free Will Baptists in 1951 to serve the church and to serve the region. Over the years, the college grew to become a four-year college. Later, it established educational programs at other locations in the region to serve the educational needs of older students who wanted to pursue their education but needed access to programs that could work around their schedules. Most recently, a new graduate program was started, and our designation changed from college to university.
Over the past six decades, this institutional has lived its motto by expanding its programs, services, and locations to meet the rapidly changing needs of this region and its students. Thus, Transforming Education; Transforming Lives is much more than just a slogan for us: instead, it is a fundamental description of why we were founded, who we are, and what we value.
Here at Mount Olive, there is no one-size-fits-all approach to our students. At each of our locations, you will find a dedicated and caring faculty and staff to help you develop the skills, the knowledge, and the competencies needed to fulfill your dreams. We offer a wide variety of academic programs, cultural events, athletic contests, and other activities to engage us and enrich us. All of these occur within a Christian–oriented environment, one in which the members of this special academic community share a sense of respect and responsibility for the well-being of each other.
I invite you to take a closer look at us, and I am confident that you will sense the excitement that is the University of Mount Olive.
